Dr. Noel Brown
As Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Brown was a frequent speaker at John Denver's "Choices for the Future" Symposiums and contributed to Denver’s involvement as a mediator at the Earth Summit in Brazil and in the creation of The Aspen Global Change Institute, a recognized international authority on global warming.
Dr. Rick Chappell
Associate director for science at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. There he directed research in solar terrestrial physics and served as principal investigator on several satellite missions. From May 1994 to May 1995, he worked with Vice President Al Gore to create an innovative K-12 science education program known as GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment). He was an important members of the team which founded the Aspen Global Change Institute in 1989, together with John Denver's Windstar Foundation.
Cheryl Charles
Directed the Windstar Foundation, the nonprofit organization co-founded by Denver with a mission to “educate, inspire and empower children and adults to create responsible choices through community and global action for a healthy and sustainable environment,” and published, with her husband Bob Samples, the international Windstar Journal.
Jean Michel Cousteau
Son of ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau.Founder of Ocean Futures Society. He is described as an explorer, environmentalist, educator, film producer who for more than four decades has used his vast experiences to communicate to people of all nations and generations his love and concern for our water planet. Has produced over 75 films, received the Emmy, the Peabody Award, the 7 d'Or, and the Cable Ace Award. Jean-Michel is Executive Producer of “Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Adventures,” a six-part television series that aired in 2006 on PBS and internationally. John Denver spent time working and traveling on the Cousteau ship “Calypso” to which he dedicated his song “Ay Calypso.”
Thomas Crum
Co-founder of the Windstar Foundation, Crum traveled with Denver for many years as his security specialist.Crum is now a major leader in the field of conflict resolution, using the martial art of Aikido as a metaphor for life.His book "The Magic of Conflict" is the quintessential authority on the subject.
Dr. Betty Sue Flowers
Author, poet, internationally renowned business consultant and currently the Director of the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum, Flowers spoke at the 6th Annual Windstar Foundation Choices for the Future Symposium in 1991.Director of the PBS Network affiliate TV station in Austin, KLRU.
Dr Robert Fuller
Co-author of "Mathematics of Classical and Quantum Physics." Worked in “citizen diplomacy” in 1978 to improve Cold War relationship. In the 1990s served as Chair of “Internews” promoting democracy via free and independent media. Author of "Somebodies and Nobodies; Overcoming the Abuse of Rank"; "All Rise: Somebodies, Nobodies and the Politics of Dignity" and also c-wrote with Pamela Gerloff "Dignity for All: How to Create a World Without Rankism."
Dr Phil Lane Jr.
The first indigenous person to win John Denver's Windstar Award, Lane has worked with indigenous peoples in North, Central and South America, Micronesia, Thailand, India, Hawaii and Africa. Was strongly influenced by John Denver and his commitment to preserve the sacred sites of Native Americans.
Donna Lipman
co-founded Windstar New York. Sang with Denver in Aspen and worked with him on his "Choices for the Future" Symposiums. Together with Terry Lipman, through their Rocketship Earth Foundation she is a seminar leader and life coach promoting peace through education.
Roger Nichols
One of the country's leading recording engineers and producers. His work has been nominated for Grammy Awards many times, of which he has won seven.Roger produced many of John Denver's albums and accompanied him on many international tours, one of the more notables was to The Soviet Union.
Milton Okun
An American arranger, musician, singer, teacher, conductor, arranger, publishing executive, and author, was the most successful popularizer of folk music in the 60s and 70s. Among many other performers Milt produced for John Denver. His productions for Denver yielded ten gold and four platinum albums, as well as ten Top 20 hits, of which four reached No. 1 (“Sunshine On My Shoulders”, “Annie’s Song”, “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”, “I’m Sorry”).
Rev Dr Dave Randall
President and Executive Director of the WHALE Center (Wellness, Health and Lifestyle Education), Randall served as program development coordinator for the Windstar Foundation, helped lead a team of 150 persons at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and was Denver’s political lobbyist, helping him arrange for a number of appearances at Senate and other hearings in Washington on environmental and space issues.
Rusty Schweikert
Apollo IX astronaut Rusty Schweikert was the first pilot of the Apollo Lunar Module. Director of State of California Space Institute. Was a close friend of John Denver and a presenter at his "Choices for the Future" Symposium.
Rolland Smith
Over 40 years of professional broadcast experience as an anchor, reporter, producer and commentator. Honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with 25 Emmy nominations and recipient of 11 Emmy Awards.Author, poet and CBS morning show anchor, Smith hosted Denver’s annual "Choices for the Future "Symposia in Aspen and became a close confidante of Denver and a Director of his Windstar Foundation.
John St Augustine
An award-winning radio talk show host, St. Augustine wrote about Denver in his book Living An Uncommon Life – Essential Lessons from 21 Extraordinary People and was a presenter at a Choices for the Future Symposium.
Hal Thau
A producer of theater and television and a business and personal manager for well known entertainers. Was John Denver’s long time business partner and manager and one of the original Directors of his Windstar Foundation.
Lynne Twist
Global activist, fundraiser, FounderofThe Soul of Money Instituteandauthor of "The Soul of Money."She founded the Soul of Money Institute to express her commitment to supporting and empowering people in finding peace and sufficiency in their relationship with money. She says, "Money is a current, a carrier, a conduit for our intention. Money carries the imprimateur of our soul." Lynne and her husband Bill Twist has spent more than three decades leading global initiatives including: ending world hunger, protecting rainforests, empowering indigenous peoples, understanding human consciousness, creating a sustainable future for all life.
Dr Wangari Maathai
Winner of John Denver's Windstar Award in 1989 and Nobel Peace Prize Winner in 2004for her work with the Green Belt Movement in Kenya which encouraged women’s groups to plant trees to prevent soil erosion, provide firewood and produce food. Through the Green Belt Movement, Maathai has helped women plant more than 40 million trees on their farms and in school and church compounds across Kenya. As a result similar initiatives have been successfully launched in Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Lesotho, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, among others.Maathai has received numerous honors for her work, including the Goldman Environmental Prize in 1991 and the French Legion of Honor in 2006. She has received honorary doctoral degrees from several institutions around the world, including Hobart & William Smith Colleges, the University of Norway, Williams College and Yale University.
Thomas T K Zung
Architect and president of the Buckminster Fuller Institute. Also a close associate of Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller, one of John Denver's mentors, who had an important influence on his life. John dedicated a song "What One Man Can Do" to his friend "Bucky" in which he described him as the grandfather of the future.
